Residents of Durban can expect some noise later today as the Mirage arrives for the Durban Airshow on Saturday.

The fighter jet is likely to fly over Umhlanga and Durban North at approximately 16h00 on it’s way to the SAAF base in Durban where it will stay until it takes off for its act on Saturday.

Another very exciting arrival at about 14h00 will be the SAAF crack aerobatic team, the Silver Falcons. They will be staying at the Virginia Airport and will be practising a number of times between now and Saturday.

Other exciting news is that Dr. Michael Sutcliffe, the Ethekweni municipal manager will be parachuting on to the airfield on Saturday. Sutcliffe will be joined by Lunga Lamula of the Strategic projects unit who will be parachuting for the first time.

“It is great to have Michael and Lunga’s support in this way” said Ray de Vries spokesman for the event.

The good news is that rugby lovers will be able to watch the Springbok and Sharks game in the hospitality marquee. The after party starts immediately after the rugby finishes and will have live music.

More than 50 participants at the show are set to wow the more than 15000 spectators and 250000 more who will be watching from the beaches, hotels, restaurants and homes from Umhlanga to downtown Durban.

The impact of the airshow on the regional economy is estimated at R18 million to R25 million.

“We urge the public to purchase tickets from www.durbanairshow.co.za as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Our website www.durbanairshow.co.za has all the details and parking advice to help the public have a terrific day of entertainment” said de Vries.
